Bricktown Update

Bricktownship councilman Steve Acropolis deserves recognition for taking on the pay for play system in his town. In a refreshing display of integrity rarely seen in the insider game of Ocean County politics, Mr. Acroplis calls mayor Scarpelli and his cronies to the mat and.... Perish the political thought!  In public Charges the Scarpelli Administration with operating A spoils system.

Let The Spin Begin

Spin is an appropriate description of what the pay for play party machine in Bricktown and Ocean County hope to achieve with the voters heads lest they accidentally absorb the truth about Pay for Play and the aptly named Spoils system.

Enemy of my enemy my Friend

As Spin Meister and Brick Mayor Joseph Scarpelli claims, in his best Nixon-esque manner "I didn't do anything wrong"
"Its legal"
 and  "they do it too."

Richard Schiff, mouthpiece for Robert K. Hailig's Pay for Play Empire, fearing the holes that have sprung up lately in their political Pirate Ship will sink further opportunities for spoil and plunder, charges Acropolis with hypocrisy while asserting, in stark contrast to his previously published opinions, that Pay for Play as it exists is preferable to ... egad ... reform.   Birds of a feather?

Pay For Play

Mayor Scarpelli is rumored to run one of the most blatant Pay for Play scams in Ocean County.
It works something like this...

Mayor S'  owns a printing business, Mr. R'  a democrat in Pinesville has a desire to volunteer in his community so he joins the local democratic Organization. Its not long before Lo and behold an opportunity presents itself and Mr. R'  is asked to run for local office.

Like a good citizen, Mr. R'  Takes up the challenge and commits his time, energy, family and even his own money to the cause. Meanwhile unknow to our small town volunteer, Mr. A'  the County Pay for Play Chairman (D) and Mayor S'  are wringing their greedy little hands in anticipation of the sting.

The plot unfolds when innocent Mr. R'  is approached by shifty little Mr. A'  and some "people" That have helped his campaign.
Hi says Mr. A'  this is Mr. So and So from the firm of so and so. They have contributed a lot of money to your cause and are depending on you. Mr. R'  thinking "Wow" This guy must really love Pinesville, asks Mr. So and So where he lives.
With a puzzled expression on his face Mr. So and So answers
"I live in Oak County."

Well, Mr. R'  is puzzled but with much work to be done he takes his leave with a fond thank you and have a nice day.

The day arrives when its time for Mr. A'  the county
boss (D) To make his move for Mayor S'

Mayop S'  has been a loyal democrat and hired all
pay to play So and So.'s to the many high paying
part time crony jobs in Bricktown, and now its time to
receive his payoff.......oops I meant pay back.

Mr. A'  approaches Mr. R'  and says we have a
printing company for all of your campaign material.
Mr. R'  being a studious and erstwhile chap asks
how much will this cost?

Mr. A  looking slightly uncomfortable stammers out a price.
Mr. R'  with a pained expression at not wanting to upset
the kindly old Mr. A'  who has gone Above and beyond the call of duty to recruit many so and So.'s says I can get the work done for exactly half that price at crazy bobs down the road.

Well Mr. A'  begins to turn a little red in the face and
begins
to stammer out something about loyalty
and honor. Then in a short hrrumph. He informs Mr.  R'
that his Chairman's PAC holds all of the money contributed
to Mr. R's  cause. and that He had better play ball or the
money can go elsewhere.

Mr. R'  feeling more than a little violated decides to leave others to their otherness and proceeds with a door to door campaign with the idea that he will ignore these games and just serve the residents of his little town.

so

Mayor S'  hires 10 Mr. So and So.'s and pays them 150% of what their service is worth
All Mr. So and So.'s Pay the Chairman's PAC 25% of their cut of the taxpayers pie.
Mr. A'  pays off...oop's there I go again..... pays back Mr. S'..

Who gets hurt? Nobody right? Except the Honorable Mr. R'  and the Taxpayers.
But do they count?  There really not part of the system, are they?

Yes, Mr. Acropolis certainly deserves the respect and support of the taxpayers in Bricktown but he might find that defeating the Pay for Play machine will be more difficult than it was for the Greeks to Evict the Turks from his namesake.

END
